GENRE: HIP-HOP/RAP
LABEL:  HOLY SOLDIER RECORDS
RELEASE DATE: DECEMBER 1, 2009
RATING: 2 OUT OF 5

From The Grime To The Glory isn’t a terrible album, but it definitely does not live up to the potential it does have within it. C-Knight is a gifted lyricist and offers some great storytelling but the album does not mesh as a good album should.

Whether it is C-Knight’s style or poor production all his rhymes seem flat and monotone. It is far too easy to tune his lyrics out of the equation entirely, even when some of his lyrics are quite good. Also the entire album seems to be devoid of any real captivating hooks.

“When the Spirit Moves” is one of the tracks that stands out as being among the most flat. The beat isn’t terrible but it feels a bit old school, but geographically ambiguously so. The lyrics are not bad but the tone it takes is one dimensional, as if the album is in mono.

From The Grime To The Glory offers solid lyricism but as an album it suffers from a general feeling of being incomplete. The beats aren’t bad, yet occasionally they feel pretty dated which distracts from the lyricism. The other big fault is the songs feel like they lack hooks, or anything to draw you in other than just pure narration.

Author’s Note: C-Knight is a promising talent but this album feels a bit incomplete or rushed. The production seems to drag it down. It isn’t an album impossible to listen to but it can be a struggle to enjoy. I still look forward to hearing what the future has in store for C-Knight.
